Changeling

the game

Each player has four tiles: two on the board and two in hand. Your opponent sees only the backs of yours, and you only the backs of theirs.

On your turn, pick one of your tiles on the board and claim an ability for it. You can claim any tile's ability, whether or not it's the tile you really have. Or skip the bluffing and just move.

When a tile dies, its owner puts a tile from their hand in its place, if they have one left. Lose all four and you lose the game.

A game uses five kinds of tile, with three copies of each.

answering a claim

✓ accept

The ability goes ahead.

🚩 challenge

The tile is revealed. If it has the ability, the challenger loses a tile and the ability goes ahead. If it doesn't, the claimer loses a tile and the ability is blocked.

Some attacks can be reflected by a tile of the same kind, as listed above. A reflection is a claim too, and can be challenged in turn.

the board

Two exchange squares each hold two face-down tiles. Move onto one to look at them, and swap one for your tile if you like.

Start your turn on the bonus square to gain extra money and see one of the unused tiles, the three dealt to nobody.

A random table draws the tiles fresh each game, along with the smite cost, the starting money, and what the bonus square gives.
